#3 CHoose Whether To Specialize Or Not
The question that arises is whether you should specialize in something or go broader. In other words, should you sell more of the same or additional services?
Specializations could be (just to name a few):
- WordPress web design
- Domain management and hosting
- Website creation and management
- Print collateral such as flyers, brochures, business cards, letter heads etc.
#2 Create a Corporate Brand
You might even want to choose a business name that has nothing to do with your last name depending on whether your ultimate goal is to be bought by a competitor for instance. Additionally, the brand no longer needs to only attract clients but also employees. Therefore, colors, icons, vocabulary and logos should be chosen with both target groups in mind.
#1 Develop a Corporate Culture
Definition of Corporate Culture: "the set of shared attitudes, values, goals, and practices that characterizes an institution or organization" - Merriam Webster
Why should you worry about your corporate culture?
First of all, it is going to save you a lot of time and money when training new hires because there is no need to explain what is expected. The way you and your teams work will imply that for instance showing up late is not tolerated and being transparent is a must. These are just two small examples but they can be translated to everything that is believed and valued in your organization.
Secondly, a corporate culture is like a secret bond or identity. It is something everyone who works with you will notice, employees and clients alike. You will most likely develop your own abbreviations, vocabulary and have insider jokes. A corporate culture can be a competitive advantage that is nearly impossible to imitate, a unique opportunity to beat competitors and drive the price up in case you would like to sell the business.
